Os smileys (emoticons) são muito utilizados nas sentenças de e-mails. Eles começaram nos EUA, onde a internet também já tinha começado, é claro. No Japão, os smileys (emoticons) cresceram de forma diferenciada dos EUA ,agora existem vários tipos delas.
Aparentemente, Smileys japoneses (Emoticons) são lidos verticalmente,enquanto os Smileys ocidentais (Emoticons) são lidos horizontalmente.Penso que a razão é que, enquanto o alfabeto americano no computador contêm 1 byte, letras japonesas no computador tem 2 bytes, de modo que os japoneses podem ter mais caracteres. E também, as frases em japonês contêm caracteres chineses que são fonogramas, assim é mais fácil de expressar e reconhecer algo cartas para eles.
